Reader Feedback Makes my Heart Sing

Sometimes, being a writer is a lonely occupation.  We sit at our desk/table/steering wheel, spewing ideas on to a legal pad/computer/tablet.  And we don’t always hear about the impact our work has on our readers.

In the end, we write to make people happy.  Ourselves.  And our readers.

Okay, I know I’M HAPPY.  But what about YOU?

That’s why I love the comments that come to me via email, Facebook, or in person.  This one made me tear up:

“I am loving your books! In fact, I am finding that the romances, intertwined with their personal complications is opening me to the possibility of love too.”

This woman is going through a difficult divorce and reinventing herself, hoping to be open to all of life’s possibilities again.  The fact that she thinks that love might work for her again as she’s reading makes me cry.

Another reader made me giggle:

“Started Pictures last night. Hooked me right away. Can’t wait to pick it up again tonight!”   (Two days later…)  “I finished Pictures in 2 days!  Loved the story. And the sex was bonus!  I want to buy the next 3 but I have to wait until our Spring Break trip, so I’m not neglecting work, family, home…everything.”

I don’t want to be responsible for child neglect!

And finally, an accountant, in the midst of busy season and working 16 hour days, told me that she picks up one of my books to de-stress and relax at bedtime, promising herself she’ll only read one chapter – and then finding that she can’t put it down, an hour later!  But she’s very relaxed by then!

As my husband says, someday when I’m a NYT bestselling author, I might get tired of hearing how much people enjoy my books.  But right now – bring it on!!!  You bring me smiles, and that makes me even happier to sit down at the keyboard!
